These are oil pastel drawings on stretched canvas or on board. My choice of materials allows me the flexibility of painting but with the tactile nature of drawing. I typically varnish the finished drawings and show them without matting or glass. The end result is painterly but I still think of them as drawings.
For the past several years I've been interested in water imagery. I enjoy the subject in its own right, but I also like it as a vehicle for exploring drawing. The patterns and textures of the water surface, as well as the endless color variations of reflected light are wonderful sources for using color, line, and the calligraphy of drawing.
